Patrick was both on the 29th February 1892. We have not found his birth cert but we know that he only had an official birthday every four years!

His parents were Michael and Ellen McGovern

The 1911 census indicates that his parents had 12 children but the ones we know about from census documents are Ellen, Bernard, Honor, Patrick himself, Maggie and Anne

Patrick married Bridget Maguire on 20th June 1927 in the Church of Glangevlin, Bawnboy, Co Cavan

Bridget was from Glangevlin, which is about 11.5 km from Gubaveeney. Her father, John, was also a farmer

They had six children: Patrick (Packie), Ellen (Evelyn), John, Kathleen and Frank. They also had a son Michael who died when he was 10 years old

Patrick handed the farm on to his eldest son, Packie, and lived with Packie, his wife Peggy, and their children in the home place in Gubaveeney for the remainder of his life

Towards the end of his life, Patrick was in poor health and bedridden

He passed away on the 27th of April 1978 at the age of 86
